Vimeo has a clip tool for sharing segments, but it does not export a file. Depending on the video's download settings, you may need to record your screen or use another service.
Method 1: Vimeo's Built-In Clip Feature
- Open a Vimeo video and click the "Clip" button (if enabled by the uploader).
- Drag the handles to select the segment.
- Copy the shareable link.
Limitations: Creates a shareable link with timestamps, not a downloadable MP4 or GIF. You cannot import it into presentations or edit it offline.
Method 2: Download (If Enabled) or Screen Record
If the uploader enabled downloads:
- Click the download button and save the MP4.
- Trim the file locally with QuickTime, VLC, or another editor.
If downloads are disabled:
- Play the Vimeo video.
- Screen record the segment you need.
- Trim the recording afterward.
Limitations: Most Vimeo videos have downloads disabled. Screen recording captures UI elements and depends on your display resolution.
Method 3: Slidekick
With Slidekick:
- Paste the Vimeo video URL or upload a file.
- Trim to the exact moment in the visual editor.
- Export as MP4 or GIF.
- Send GIFs straight to Google Slides, or download MP4 clips.
Slidekick handles URL import, screen recording, offline uploads, and exports to MP4 or GIF — with Google Slides integration built in.
If you clip Vimeo videos regularly, Slidekick lets you paste any URL, trim visually, and export as MP4 or GIF — no install.
