YouTube's Clip feature is useful for sharing, but it does not give you a file. If you need a downloadable MP4 or GIF, you will need another approach.
Method 1: YouTube's Built-In Clip Feature
- Click the "Clip" button below a YouTube video (available on most videos).
- Drag the handles to select a segment up to 60 seconds.
- Copy the shareable link.
Limitations: Creates a shareable link with timestamps, not a downloadable file. You cannot import it into a presentation or edit it offline.
Method 2: Download with cobalt.tools or 4K Video Downloader, Then Trim Locally
- Copy the YouTube video URL.
- Paste it into cobalt.tools or 4K Video Downloader and save the MP4.
- Trim the file using QuickTime, VLC, or another editor.
Limitations: You must download the full video first, which can be large. Some tools require installation or have usage limits.
Method 3: Slidekick
With Slidekick:
- Paste the YouTube video URL or upload a file.
- Trim to the exact moment in the visual editor.
- Export as MP4 or GIF.
- Send GIFs straight to Google Slides, or download MP4 clips.
